The modern circular economy
Sustainable success for generations
The Window Solutions division at REHAU has used recycled materials for sustainable window solutions for a long time. As a result, it has established itself as a driver of a sustainable circular economy in the window industry. It operates on the following principle: Old windows are collected, their PVC components are processed into high-quality recycling granulate, and this granulate is integrated into the resource-saving production of new window profiles.
“We significantly increase the value of our window systems by thinking beyond the life cycle of a window and taking recycling as the basic premise”, says Carsten Heuer, Head of the Window Solutions division. “The introduction of the Window.ID is an important innovative step in this direction because it gives customers detailed information about the percentage of recycled materials in their windows. This creates transparency and ensures our credibility.”
“Thanks to the systematic expansion of our window factories’ product portfolio, new window products from REHAU already had a 54 per cent proportion of recycled materials in 2020. We plan to increase this proportion to 65 per cent by 2025”, adds Dr. Michael Stöger, Executive Director of Operations & Supply Chain Management.

REHAU is acting on its promise to future generations by working to bring about a sustainable circular economy together with renowned partners. For example, it is a member of the European Trade Association of PVC Window System Suppliers (EPPA), the recycling initiative Rewindo and VinylPlus Deutschland, the sector network of the PVC industry. REHAU is vigorously driving forward this campaign and adapting its operations accordingly: It currently saves about 70,000 tons of CO2 annually.
