Crystal Lake kitchen in Colorado

When Brett and Linnea Rubbico moved from Orange County, California, to Colorado, they had the opportunity to design their new home themselves – in line with their tastes, their preferences and their personalities.

The house is tucked away on a wooded lot in the town of Mountain Shadows in Colorado at an elevation of 2,134 metres. Rubbico, an art expert and dealer, designed the house to present his private art collection in its best light. He plays with natural light while at the same time preventing his artworks from being damaged by direct exposure to sunlight.

The Riverwoods Mill carpentry shop and the Rubbicos developed various cabinet designs together. They ultimately decided on the cabinets from Riverwoods Mill with REHAU fronts in RAUVISIO brilliant Bianco white and FENIX NTM Nero Ingo matt black surface materials.

“These doors are an ideal match for the cubist design of the house,” says Rubbico, “and they provide a dramatic contrast with their interplay of black and white. And the different tactile feel of mirror-like RAUVISIO surfaces and the matt FENIX NTM surface adds another subtle dimension.”

The kitchen has a detached work island made of black soapstone with white marbling. Above it are cabinets with FENIX NTM doors in Nero Ingo matt black. For the worktop near the sink, the Rubbicos chose white Carrara marble with veins of grey. To match the worktop, the upper cabinets have doors made with RAUVISIO brilliant acrylic laminate in Bianco glossy white.

The mix of materials is repeated in the spacious bathroom: white Carrara marble for the horizontal surfaces and furniture doors in the white, high-gloss RAUVISIO brilliant.

“It is a perfect interplay of tones and materials, exactly as we had envisioned it,” says Rubbico. “We love it!”
