The Hotel Mercure Wien city centre is a popular destination for exploring the city of Vienna. It is located right in the centre of the historic city, which pulsates with vibrant cultural life. St. Stephen’s Cathedral, the State Opera House, Hofburg Palace, the museum quarter and exclusive shopping streets are all within walking distance. The interior design firm XIAWORKS in Stuttgart conceptualised the conversion of the 74 guest rooms.
The Mercure philosophy is for every building to have its own unmistakable, individual character. Every guest should get a sense of the local background. Even within a city, a specific concept is developed for each of the different Mercure Hotels. They are all unique and tell their own story.
At the city hotel Wien Zentrum, it’s all about “confectionery”: Pictures of cakes, quotes from the Sacher family, carpets with sugar roses, room number plates that look like pieces of cake and even the color scheme of the guest rooms blend in with the overall concept’s pastel sugar colors and fine gold accents.
But there is rarely a one-size-fits-all solution for renovation while the facility is in full operation. When doing construction in existing buildings, surprises are par for the course. Flexibility was key for the interior designer, not least because she had to find practical solutions time and again even while building work was already under way.
The high-quality surface materials made from RAUVISIO crystal glass laminate (Sabbia color) were used particularly in the bathroom renovations. Despite no construction noise and no masonry work, but with an enormous time advantage over tiling, the interior walls of the 74 bathrooms have never looked better. With the seamless appearance, the bathroom not only looks classy, it also prevents dirty joints where germs can accumulate. Real added value for the hotel business. Metallic sparkling golden edgebands lend accents to sideboards and shelves and underscore the ‘confectionery’ style of the interior design.
