Sustainability and responsibility for future generations are an integral part of REHAU’s corporate strategy.

RAUKANTEX eco.protect combines products and services relating to sustainable edgebands and reflects our long-standing tradition and commitment to environmentally friendly production, employee protection and resource conservation. Our aim is to minimise our ecological footprint, in which raw material use is a major factor, by using recyclates and other more sustainable alternative materials. We are also constantly developing our production in terms of energy efficiency and resource conservation.

Packaging

Sustainable packaging through recycling and partnerships

REHAU favours sustainable packaging and recycled materials, working with partners who follow the “reduce, reuse, recycle” principle. This is emphasised in the Supplier Code of Conduct, while individual and sustainable packaging solutions are developed with customers. In 2019, the percentage of sustainable packaging in the REHAU Group was already at 65%. The factories mainly use Euro pallets and certified-sustainable timber boards as well as film and strapping made from up to 100% recycled materials.

Energy

Pursuing the goals of energy efficiency and CO₂ neutrality with investments and modern technologies

REHAU continuously invests in modern systems and technologies in order to minimise energy and resource consumption. Cross-plant monitoring and detailed surveillance have already contributed to a 17% decrease in electricity consumption (kWh/kg). The company endeavours to exhaust all potential savings and achieve CO₂ neutrality. The plants in Visbek and Rehau are ISO 50001-certified and the entire European edgeband production is already 100% climate-neutral, thus meeting the highest international standards.

Purchasing

Secure recyclate supply sources for more recycled content in lightweight components

REHAU endeavours to increase the proportion of recycled material in production and to largely eliminate pollutants such as lead-based pigments and chlorinated compounds. Wherever possible, production waste is processed and recycled (ISO 14001-certified environmental management system). The high sustainability standards apply to REHAU and its suppliers, who must supply certified raw materials at both product and packaging level (Supplier Code of Conduct).

Together with our purchasing company Meraxis, we constantly strive to find and secure stable, permanent supply sources. In this way, we want to continue to expand the portion of our product lines that contain a high percentage of recycled content. Ultimately, this results in lightweight components made of recycled materials.

RAUKANTEX eco impresses with 50% post-industrial recyclate in its base material (PP). Simultaneously, customers can enjoy the same design, quality and workmanship they’ve come to expect from classic REHAU edgebands. For sustainability that’s not only sensible, but also makes for an impressive feature of any project.

The expert judges at the German Innovation Award were particularly impressed by the two product developments, RAUKANTEX eco and evo. Both product lines won awards in the ‘Excellent Product Design – Eco Design’ category.

Proven standards for the highest environmental and quality requirements

Numerous different certification systems have been developed globally in recent years, and they are becoming increasingly similar based on experiences gained during their revision. Certifications are evolving into a global standard.

Environmental Product Declarations

Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) are standardised documents that present the environmental impact of a product, in a transparent and comparable form, throughout its entire life cycle. They are based on international standards and provide detailed information on factors such as energy consumption, emissions and resource utilisation. The RAUKANTEX EPDs are available via the database of Institut Bauen und Umwelt e. V. (Institute of Construction and the Environment): RAUKANTEX ABS, RAUKANTEX PP, RAUKANTEX eco, RAUKANTEX evo.

Nordic Swan Ecolabel

The Nordic Swan Ecolabel is a leading ecolabel in the Nordic countries, labelling products and services that meet strict environmental and climate criteria. It guarantees high standards in areas such as energy efficiency, material utilisation and pollutant reduction. All RAUKANTEX PP edgebands comply with the label.
